Useful & Beautiful: The Transatlantic Arts of William Morris and the Pre-Raphaelites
Thursday – Saturday, October 7 – 9
At the University of Delaware, Winterthur Museum & Country Estate, and the Delaware Art Museum
Organized by the University of Delaware, the Delaware Art Museum, and Winterthur, with assistance from the William Morris Society, this conference will focus on the multitude of transatlantic exchanges that involved Morris, the Pre-Raphaelites, and the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements of the late 19th century. In addition to the scheduled events, including a keynote address by noted biographer Fred Kaplan, presentations by Arts and Crafts practitioners, and a performance of Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, several coinciding exhibitions, such as the Museum's A Belief in the Power of Beauty: Selected Works by May Morris, will be on display. The conference fee is $150, $75 for students, and no charge for University of Delaware faculty, staff and students. To register or learn more, click here.
